The Northwestern Visayan Colleges’ (NVC) Office of Student Affairs organized 3 sessions of symposium on April 20, 2026‚ at the NVC CSQ Gymnasium. Students from the Criminal Justice Education (CJED)‚ College of Education (COLED)‚ Tourism Management (TM)‚ Android Hospitality Management (HM) gathered for the seminar aimed at raising awareness on critical social issues.
‎
‎The morning session centered on the Republic Act 9262‚ or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) Act. Police Senior Master Sergeant Vanessa Roldan led the discussion‚ tackling the realities of domestic violence‚ sexual abuse‚ and the legal penalties imposed on offenders‚ and gave students a deeper understanding of the law and its role in protecting vulnerable sectors.

‎In the afternoon‚ Mr. Errol R. Ordines‚ RN‚ discussed teenage pregnancy and Republic Act 11166‚ also known as the HIV and AIDS Policy Act. 
‎
‎Ordines noted the health risks faced by teenage mothers and their infants‚ along with the social and economic consequences such as disrupted education and financial challenges. He also presented prevention strategies‚ including comprehensive sex education‚ access to contraception‚ open parent-adolescent communication‚ and youth empowerment programs‚ while discussing the basics of HIV and AIDS and current surveillance efforts. 
‎
‎Students were likewise given the opportunity to examine HIV testing kits‚ including self-test kits‚ to promote informed and responsible health practices.
‎
‎The seminar equipped students with essential knowledge on pressing social and health issues‚ raising awareness‚ responsibility‚ and proactive engagement in addressing these issues within their communities.
