Kalibo, Aklan - The Supreme Student Council (SSC) of the Northwestern Visayan Colleges(NVC) hosted an event in cooperation with the Office of the Student Affairs (OSA) about the Student Crime Prevention Seminar, on December 2, 2025 at the NVC CSQ Gymnasium.

The seminar gathered student leaders from various college departments who shared a common goal of promoting a safer, more secure campus environment for the entire NVC community. With the rise of safety concerns across schools nationwide, the event served as an important reminder of the role young leaders play in promoting awareness, and responsible action.

Plt. Julie Ruiz, PRC, served as the keynote speaker and discussed several crime-related incidents that occurred within school premises in recent years. She emphasized the importance of early reporting, proactive prevention, and collective responsibility among students. One of the highlights of her talk was the discussion on the “Bawal Bastos Law” or the Safe Spaces Act (RA 11313), which protects individuals from gender-based harassment in public spaces, schools, and workplaces. She urged students not to hesitate in approaching police officers or authorities whenever they witness or experience any form of crime or harassment.

"Everyone's safety relies on us", Marian Ligayu, the Head of the General Administrative Facilities, reminded participants about the importance of preparedness. She emphasized that the institution had successfully conducted multiple safety and emergency drills in recent months, reinforcing the readiness of the school in case of unforeseen events. She also elaborated on the rules, regulations, and safety measures being implemented to ensure that every individual within the campus understands their role in maintaining order and security.

The seminar concluded with a powerful reminder that crime can happen at any moment, often when least expected. With this, student leaders were encouraged to apply what they learned by staying alert, promoting safety awareness, and becoming active partners in safeguarding the NVC community.
